Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is free to play and is available NOW on mobile devices via the App Store and Google Play. As players unravel the Hogwarts mystery, they will explore familiar locations like Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.
Players will also be introduced to some original game characters like Penny, a popular Hufflepuff potions expert, Tulip, a rebellious Ravenclaw prankster, and Merula, a Slytherin with a dark past. "Being involved in the making of the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game will give great pleasure to my grandchildren,” said Dame Maggie Smith, voice of Professor McGonagall in the game. Along with interactive spellcasting, the game features an encounter system where narrative choices impact parts of the story. They will also be able to master everything from crafting potions under Snape’s critical eye, to Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall.
Players will be able to create and upgrade personalized characters using an avatar customization system, learn an arsenal of magical skills, and form relationships with other students. In the game, players will progress as a student through Hogwarts, joining one of its four houses. The story of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is set in the 1980s. “We at Jam City have been working hard to ensure that any aspiring witch or wizard can enter Hogwarts through their smartphones and tablets and begin their magical journeys.” “There are so few moments where a mobile entertainment company has the chance to truly bring magic into the world and we’ve been thrilled by the amazing response our game has already received from Harry Potter fans everywhere,” said Chris DeWolfe, co-founder and CEO of Jam City. LOS ANGELES, Ap– Jam City, a Los Angeles based mobile games studio, announced today that the new mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is available to download now on the App Store and Google Play. New Mobile Game Allows Players to Experience the Magic of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry First-Hand as Students Jam City Launches Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery So now you are stuck, with a clock ticking down that you can do nothing about, at least until your energy levels build back up or you purchase some more. The trouble is, your limited energy will run out right in the middle of this task, and I assure you this is by design. At about the 25-minute mark you will find yourself in the middle of a task that requires you finish it before an 8-hour time limit is up. They don't even take that long to rear their ugly head either.
While I can easily ignore the IAPs and currencies, the wait timers have a tendency to stop your fun dead in its tracks. You can also expect multiple in-game currencies and pesky wait timers. The story is definitely the main focus, and the high-quality music and intuitive controls simply help to keep the game balanced with an acceptable level of polish.Įverything isn't perfect though, this is a free-to-play release, which means there are plenty of in-app purchases that just so happen to range up to $99.99 per item. This is a casual choose your own adventure game after all, so it's not like there are going to be a lot of deep mechanics for the player to dive into. This past February I did a hands-on with the beta release, and I have to say I came away mostly pleased with the experience, if not a little underwhelmed by the shallow gameplay. After a lengthy beta program, it would seem that Jam City has decided that Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is finally ready for the masses.
